چکیده
Abstract The present review aims the discussion of impact bioprospection initiative developed by projects associated to BIOprospecTA, a subprogram program BIOTA, supported FAPESP. This brings summary main results produced investigating natural products (NPs) from non-plants organisms, as examples success this initiative, focusing on progresses achieved related NPs macroalgae, marine invertebrates, arthropods and microorganisms. Macroalgae are one most studied groups in Brazil with isolation many bioactive compounds including lipids, carotenoids, phycocolloids, lectins, mycosporine-like amino acids halogenated compounds. Marine invertebrates microorganisms have been more systematically last thirty years, revealing unique compounds, potent biological activities. venoms Hymenopteran insects were also extensively studied, resulting identification hundreds peptides, which used create chemical library that contributed for leader models development antifungal, antiparasitic, anticancer built knowledge permitted an equine hyperimmune serum anti honeybee venom. Amongst bioprospecting strategy was understand molecular basis intra- interspecies interactions (Chemical Ecology), translating possible biotechnological applications. discussed here reinforce importance BIOprospecTA research highly innovative potential Brazil.

Bioprospecting of marine invertebrates for new natural products - a chemical and zoogeographical perspective.
Bioprospecting for new marine natural products (NPs) has increased significantly over the last decades, leading to an unprecedented discovery of new molecules. Marine invertebrates have been the most important source of these NPs, with researchers commonly targeting particular taxonomic groups, marine regions and/or molecules from specific chemical groups. The present review focuses on new NPs ...

The ocean dominates the surface of our planet and plays a major role in regulating the biosphere. For example, the microscopic photosynthetic organisms living within provide 50% of the oxygen we breathe, and much of our food and mineral resources are extracted from the ocean. In a time of ecological crisis and major changes in our society, it is essential to turn our attention towards the sea t...

INTRODUCTION The important role of fauna in modifying the regolith by redistributing particles is now widely acknowledged (e.g., Paton et al. 1995). One issue of some importance to regolith studies and the interpretation of paleosols is how the role of terrestrial bioturbation has evolved since life first invaded the land areas of Earth in the Early Paleozoic. This particular issue was raised d...
متن کاملAntifouling Compounds from Marine Macroalgae
Marine macroalgae produce a wide variety of biologically-active metabolites that have been developed into commercial products, such as antibiotics, immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic agents, and cosmetic products. Many marine algae remain clean over longer periods of time, suggesting their strong antifouling potential. Isolation of biogenic compounds and the determination of their ...
متن کاملCyclic AMP levels in several macroalgae and their relation to light quantity and quality.
Total cAMP levels were measured in the macroalgae Dictyota dichotoma, Gelidium sesquipedale and Ulva rigida under different light conditions in order to study its regulation either by phytochrome or photosynthesis. Incubation in red or far-red light did not promote a phytochrome-like response; instead, it showed a synergistic effect upon cAMP accumulation. cAMP levels seemed to depend on the am...
